ABOUT SAMS
Sustainable Alluvial Mining Services was established based on the need to assist small scale miners in Papua New Guinea after serving the Government-run Mining Organization training miners around the country for seven years. The organization has just started to put a Board of Trustees in place consisting of three Nationals and one Australian with vast experience in the industry and backgrounds in government service, the private sector, and academia.
To date, Immaculate Javia, the founder of Sustainable Alluvial Mining Services, has been working on a volunteer basis. She has degree in Environmental Science and Resource Management from University of Papua New Guinea and a Certificate in Environmental Implementation and Planning from the UNESCO IHE Institute for Water education in the Netherlands and a Professional Leadership from George Mason University and IREX Community Leadership Institute in the USA. In addition, she brings more than seven years working with the PNG government’s ASGM Training Facility. In addition, she established the country’s first Female Small-Scale Miners Association (FSSMA), an independent body that is solely managed by women miners.

In her career as a certified trainer, Immaculate has developed curriculum and trained small scale miners around the country while employed by the Mineral Resources Authority of Papua New Guinea. She has represented the ASGM at international conferences and meetings, including the Regional Workshop on Minamata Convention for South East Asia and Pacific countries and the UN Commission on Sustainable Development on how mining can drive Sustainable Development through the empowerment of women.
GOAL
The Goal of Sustainable Alluvial Mining Services is to work collaboratively with Alluvial Miners through the country to Achieve Sustainable Rural Development through Environmentally Responsible Mining activities.

Our mission
We aspire to build a sustainable small scale mining industry in PNG and abroad and to ensure a well regulated, cost effective responsible small scale mining industry exists in countries so that there is efficient and increased gold production for all miners to enable them to be economically empowered and have improved living standards in their rural mining communities
