Women play a key role in the ASGM sector of Papua New Guinea. They make up almost 40% of the total miner population in the ASGM sector in Papua New Guinea, Many female small scale miners lack the ability to stand up , voice their concerns and participate in programs implemented in the sector.
Despite been under represented at the domestic and international level, either at the decision making or management level, female miners contribute immensely in income generation for their families whilst in the process, contribution to revenue generation for the country.
Women have faced all odds in their quest to provide for their families and has rarely given the opportunity to voice their concerns at the National , Political or International level.
If given the opportunity to participate in decision-making or programs offered in the sector, women miners will surely make an impact in their individual and family lives but also have great impacts in the social spaces.
